Some fantastic singles coming out of the new album available on the 9th of November, a return to form I think. In all honesty, I prefer Mountains and Golden Rule to this one but any BIffy is good Biffy. Can’t wait to get hold of the album!
Well, after a little shuffling and sorting I decided to install Kubuntu Karmic Koala Alpha 5 on a spare partition on one of my hard drives. It recently became spare when I erased its former occupant: Windows 7. It was just taking up space…
After a bit of a lagging installation I find myself, having just clicked the “don’t restart” yet button, wanting to show off a feature I found completely by accident. A now included Plasma Widget for Facebook pictured below and the nano blog widget.
Well, it’s nearly that time of year again when Ubuntu next version is released. A few funky things are in the works and now the last Alpha release 5 is here the majority of changes have now been set for 9.10. One thing that has been added in the 5th alpha is GNOME 2.27.91, in addition to a complete rewrite of GDM, this release should mark some cool changes.
As you may have guessed from the title of the post – I’m currently upgrading to Karmic – so when it’s finished I will be able to fill you in some more.
Should also have some kubuntu information to empart as well as I’ve been using KDE 4.3 for the last week or so… and it does have some very nice features – the desktop widgets are a favourite of mine and something which is missing from the gnome desktop; certainly such ease of deployment is missing anyway. It is still buggy, I think most of my kde programs have crashed at some point this week, specifically the package management apps. I really think this is something the Kubuntu team need to work on for Karmic; the Gnome Desktop alternatives: Add and Remove and synaptic especially form a combination that’s hard to beat.
Anyway, more to come as I tinker over the next few days. I can’t help but get the Alpha releases; me, wait a whole six months for Ubuntu goodies? I don’t think so!

Windows Users – The Charlie Browns of Computing
Quite frankly this man should be knighted, and really not just for championing Linux but by showing how much good can come 3 things: education, charity and understanding.
Please take the time to read the whole article, this man has done so much good for so many people.
On a separate note the comments really demonstrate how much support this man has. The one attacking comment only succeeds in highlighting the posters ignorance; Helios does not come across as superior – he has every right to – but he does not.
Okay, I’ve spent the best part of the last 48 hours coding/designing constantly. Looking around the flat just seems weird to me now, nothing looks as it should. It’s similar to the effect you get while walking out of the cinema after watching something like Knowing (longest feeling film I’ve ever seen I swear..)
But moving on from that peculiarity my coding stint means that I’ve not only nearly finished my own wordpress theme (I know… I have one, but take the time to look at the code that powers it and you’ll see why I don’t count it as a real one) but, more importantly, I’ll be finishing the website for Nico’s Restaurant: a great little place near to where I work. Who knows, when it’s online maybe I’ll put a link up to it :p
Anyway, that’s really all for now: you may have noticed I said nearly finished..

P.S I forgot to say, the wallpapers I made ages ago are now available to download in the artwork section. Back to work and some more Radiohead to help me along I think.
Ok, I’m sorry. It’s been a horrendously long time since I’ve posted on here but I have been very busy: Moving house, wedding bells, a little holiday and then a lot of work has conspired to keep me away from my blog for too long. But now I’m throwing myself back in again.
I’m currently working on a web design for an Italian restaurant not far from me and once that’s finished I have a few more racked up. Somewhere in between I’ll finally finish my own design and site, I promise. Then perhaps I can actually start writing some articles again.
But that’s all for now, I really am quite pushed for time. I just wanted to write a quick post to confirm I am still here… and will be for the foreseeable future – once I get some work done!
I’ve just found a fantastic article by Walter V. Koenning tackling the “issues” so many long-term Windows user have with Linux. Walter is utterly spot on with everything he says. I’m so tired of reading comments posted by utterly ignorant Windows users (you know, they call drug addicts users.. what’s that saying about us geeky types?) who, despite knowing nothing/very little about their OS of choice, feel free to attack Linux users with unfounded accusations and often pointlessly vulgar language.

An updated version of a golden oldie , many of you may have come across this before but it’s had some new additions.
Apparently a greater selection of wallpapers and background images will be included in the next release of Ubuntu. I’m a little unsure about this. It can only be a good thing I suppose, more artwork, more community input – all good things. But is it needed? There are so many artwork websites out there for linux, you’re only ever a link away from gnome-look, kde-look, xfce-look, linuxmint-art (all essentially the same site, just rebranded and visited by different users… I assume) to name but a few.
But I think I’m just grumbling. So many people criticize ubuntu for the fact it’s brown and orange.. but so what. The easiest thing to do on a Linux computer (for me personally, in Gnome) is change the theme and general appearance of your desktop.
Everything can be customized. Don’t like the brown? Fine, it takes seconds to change it. If, like me, you prefer a simple, sensible desktop and just want to make the odd few changes here and there – you can.
But sorry I’ll stop now. Rant over. I guess that’s why the forum phenomenon “flame-wars†are called as such, the battles are often over but the war carries on..
More wallpapers can only really do good for Ubuntu and the huge community that enjoys and supports it, maybe I’ll do a couple of my own..
