Kubuntu 9.10 Kapture – a networking desktop

Well, after a little shuffling and sorting I decided to install Kubuntu Karmic Koala Alpha 5 on a spare partition on one of my hard drives. It recently became spare when I erased its former occupant: Windows 7. It was just taking up space…

After a bit of a lagging installation I find myself, having just clicked the “don’t restart” yet button, wanting to show off a feature I found completely by accident. A now included Plasma Widget for Facebook pictured below and the nano blog widget.

Linux sucks… or rather it doesn't: please think before you speak

I’ve just found a fantastic article by Walter V. Koenning tackling the “issues” so many long-term Windows user have with Linux. Walter is utterly spot on with everything he says. I’m so tired of reading comments posted by utterly ignorant Windows users (you know, they call drug addicts users.. what’s that saying about us geeky types?) who, despite knowing nothing/very little about their OS of choice, feel free to attack Linux users with unfounded accusations and often pointlessly vulgar language.

Flocking all over the web

Started playing with Flock again recently. I dabbled with it while it was in its infancy a year or so ago and boy has it come on since then! The integration of the most popular social networking sites is brilliant, seamless integration with facebook, twitter, flickr, delicious bookmarks, digg, myspace (well… I suppose some people must still use it).

I think a review is shaping up in my head already – watch this space!

Pulling myself together with OSS

For too long now I’ve worked on too many little projects, snippets of code and web designs to really stay sane.

A few months ago I was assaulted at work. It has been a crap time in all honesty but if I can take one positive thing from the experience it is that I need to get organized. I really do love working at Plonkers (who wouldn’t want to work at an off-license called that!?) but it’s not what I want to do for the rest of my life.
